The text of Marie-Luce Nadal

« "There's no smoke without fire", similarly, there's no cloud without the particles in the air, those tiny dust particles called fine particles. In other words, the cloud is born from the particle. The particle is a forgotten element because it is tiny, yet it is the soul of those masses that rise in the sky.

"Playing with fire" is a well-known expression that means to flirt with danger, like a butterfly drawn to the light that ends up burning its wings.

"To be in the clouds" means to daydream, but literally means "to be in the game": to be a part of it. When we imagine a cloud, we picture a compact whole. We don't think about the countless tiny elements that compose it.

Once, I saw a cloud. I mean I saw it from the inside, not from the ground or from a plane. It seems to me that it was in a dream, but a kind of waking dream where a man was floating. He seemed both stuck and flying...

I desired to create a cloud in a box so that I could finally say that it is possible to play with clouds just like playing with fire. »

Marie-Luce Nadal

Marie-Luce Nadal, a French Catalonian artist and researcher, explores the intersection of Art, Science, and Myths in her work. With a lineage of winegrowers, she endeavors to master the sky, using installations and artworks to infuse the sky with symbolic and political significance, exploring themes of gender and ecology.

Her artistic practice blends uniqueness of form, scientific inquiry, and poetic expression, showcasing the multifaceted nature of artistic and scientific research. Through narratives, machine-based creations, and performances, she engages with the vastness of the universe, evoking a sense of connection and fascination.

Nadal's installations constitute a narrative ensemble exploring the unknown, dreamlike, and poetic dimensions of human existence when confronted with the transcendent. Her art confronts the intertwining scales of life, revealing a profound interconnectedness between terrestrial and divine forces. In her exploration of the atmosphere, Nadal raises fundamental questions about our relationship with nature, unraveling the artificial landscapes that surround us. Her work revolves around the human obsession with control and dominance over the natural world, extracting essences from storms, domesticating flies, and conjuring clouds.
